From the Private Well Class: Septic Systems 101 – Recorded Live on July 9, 2025

Each summer, our sister program the Private Well Class hosts a “Septic Systems 101” webinar as part of their monthly webinar series for private well owners and environmental health professionals. Last week marked the 2025 edition of this webinar, which we have held since 2015.

Even if you weren’t able to attend the webinar live, there’s much to learn from the video recording featured below. (Although continuing education credit is not available to environmental health professionals who only watch the recording). Viewers will learn about septic system management as part of a larger strategy to protect the water in private wells. Using best practices to maintain septic systems help to keep them in proper working order and prolong their useful lives.

The webinar recording answers questions such as:

  • What is safe to flush down drains?
  • Do septic tanks need additives?
  • How can the life of a system be prolonged?

Viewer questions about specific situations faced with their own septic systems were also answered. Give it a watch, and share it with anyone you feel could benefit from this introduction to septic systems and how they work!

You can also check out the full archive of Septic Systems 101 webinars dating back a decade at this blog post.
